Put Items on Course Reserve (Short Term Loan)
What we offer
The Course Reserve service makes available a special collection of high demand items to support current courses. This service is provided for both print and online items, including electronically-available articles and e-books. Please note that we do not place books on reserve from other U of T Libraries.
In addition, this service delivers to the Blackboard course page a fully-linked reading list, including required, recommended and additional readings.
When a course reading list is provided, specified items are searched in the library catalogue to determine their location, then:
- Purchase orders are initiated for books not owned by the U of T Scarborough Library.
- Journal articles not available electronically are provided in a photocopy format.
- Items are set aside on the Course Reserves shelves behind the Circulation Desk.
Accessing course reserves
Students can search the course reserves collection through the Course Reserves search box in the U of T catalogue.
How to submit your reading list to the library
There are several ways to submit your reading list:
- Online Course Reserve Form
- E-mail request to readinglist-library@utsc.utoronto.ca (include the course title, code, title and author for each item)
- In person by submitting reading list to the Circulation Desk or completing a paper Course Reserve Loan Request form
For best results, we recommend that you provide us with your reading list at least 6 weeks before the start of your course. This time frame will allow us to order new titles and to prepare the materials for your course.
Reading list materials are not automatically placed on reserve. Even if you are using the same materials in consecutive years, each title must be checked annually and reactivated as necessary. Timely communication is key.
Blackboard
For Faculty with a Blackboard course page, the reading list will be uploaded to the e-reserves folder by the Library. It will contain durable links to both the print and electronic resources in the course reserves collection. Students will be able to access all the readings by selecting the course's e-Reserves link.
For courses not in the Blackboard system, the reading list with embedded links will be e-mailed to the instructor to load into other course pages, as appropriate.
Old Exams Repository
Past exams, assignments, assignment solutions, study guides, writing samples, etc. can also be posted in the Library's Old Exams Repository.
