Introduction to Business Resources

Description:

Students of all disciplines learn the types of documents available related to company, industry and market research. Includes overview of public versus private companies, subscription resources, government sources of information, and evaluating sources found online.

You’ll learn how to:

Develop skills to find and evaluate business information resources

Comprehend the basics of market research and industry reports

Practice finding relevant industry reports and company information

Advanced Market Research

Take a deep dive into advanced business research using the University of Toronto Libraries’ specialized databases. In this workshop, you will:

•             Learn to identify and explore the best information sources for your research

•             Research public and private companies, including their ownership and financials

•             Track companies and industry performance

•             Practice skills that support your individual learning needs

Students attending will be contacted closer to the workshop date for feedback on companies and industries of interest.

Data Literacy for Entrepreneurs I

The ability to ask and answer real-world questions from large and small data sets, and to communicate that information to others, is becoming a requirement for innovation and entrepreneurship. This interactive session will introduce you to the data literacy skills you will need to find, select, evaluate, and communicate stories from data that will help you with your business pitch and business plan.

Participants will learn to:

·         find, identify, and select types of marketing, consumer, demographic and economic data

·         navigate major databases and data catalogues, via hands-on experience

·         critically evaluate the suitability of data resources to meet their needs

Data Literacy & Visualization for Entrepreneurs II

The ability to ask and answer real-world questions from large and small data sets, and to communicate that information to others visually, is becoming a requirement for innovation and entrepreneurship. This interactive session will introduce you to the data literacy skills you will need to select, clean, interpret, and communicate stories from data using data visualizations. Presenting data visually will help you create an engaging, informative, and compelling business plan and pitch.  

Participants will learn to:

•                     find, and select types of marketing, consumer, demographic and economic data

•                     process data in order to prepare it for use, via hands-on experience

•                     visualize the data in order to communicate information to the viewer, using charts, graphs, and maps
