Join us for Open Access Week 2021

International Open Access Week, October 25-31, 2021, is a time for the wider community to coordinate in taking action to make openness the default for research and to ensure that equity is at the center of this work.

This year’s theme of “It Matters How We Open Knowledge: Building Structural Equity” highlights the call for equitable participation for all producers and consumers of knowledge.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion must be consistently prioritized year-round and integrated into the fabric of the open community, from how our infrastructure is built to how we organize community discussions to the governance structures we use. International Open Access Week is an important opportunity to catalyze new conversations, create connections across and between communities that can facilitate this co-design, and advance progress to build more equitable foundations for opening knowledge—discussions and actions that need to be continued, year in and year out.

The UTSC Library and our Digital Scholarship Unit are proud to collaborate with local and campus partners to integrate equitable diversity and inclusiveness through open educational resources we provide for our communities. From how our infrastructure is built to how we organize community discussions or governance structures, we must integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion consistently year-round as part of the open community, which includes UTSC, UTSC Library, and our Digital Scholarship Unit.

Explore our short video to see some of our contributions to the Open movement. Our hope is that contributions to the Open Access movement, and the tools and systems featured in our video, plant seeds that improve openness and equitable access to knowledge over time.

Contact your Liaison Librarian or the Digital Scholarship Unit for more information or help in creating and finding open collections and resources.
