On April 8, Nicole Slattery, Liaison Librarian at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus Library, presented at Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) Celebration of Teaching Showcase 2025. In her presentation, Nicole explored how anti-oppressive practices, and critical librarianship can shape more inclusive and transformative learning environments in higher education.
The annual Showcase invites educators from across the campus, celebrating teaching and learning while sharing instructional knowledge and expertise. Slattery presented “From Framework to Integrative Praxis: Pedagogy of Care, Culturally Sustaining Teaching, and Neuroinclusion in Library Learning” This work offers a justice-oriented framework for instruction, asynchronous learning supports, and one-on-one consultations.
“It was such a meaningful experience to connect with faculty, staff, and instructors and hearing about how instructors engage in thoughtful, student-centered practices, in their own teaching and learning practices.” said Slattery.
She was delighted to connect with fellow educators, and see some practices displayed on her poster identified as meaningful to integrate into their own teaching. The conversations, which included reflections on what it means to support ourselves as neurodiverse educationsors, highlightsing the importance of building in care, community, and sustainability in teaching practices across the University.
