Seed Sitting Workshop – Grow Native Plants from Seed

Presenter Carey Toane
Location Gerstein Library
Date
Time -

Are you interested in growing native plants? Learn how to prepare seeds that need to be stored in the cold before they are able to germinate and grow in the spring.

Some native perennials flowers that are important for pollinators need a cold period (cold stratification) to mimic the winter’s freeze-thaw cycle to trigger the biochemical changes needed for the plants to sprout in the spring when the conditions are favourable for growing.

Also known as seed sitting, earning this skill can help with enjoyment of gardening as a hobby and overall health and well-being. Growing your own food is a great way to access healthy food affordably and sustainably.

This workshop is designed for novice learners. No gardening experience is required.
