Have you ever looked at the output of a GenAI tool and thought - can I really trust this? While Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools can create material that looks polished and professional, that doesn’t mean the outputs are accurate, unbiased, or up to date.
This session will help you develop critical evaluation skills needed for identifying reliable and trustworthy sources in the AI era. Through guided activities and reflections, you will learn how to verify AI-generated citations, spot fabricated sources, and identify algorithmic biases. You will also explore AI’s potential impact on academic integrity and scholarly work at the university setting.
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
• Assess the quality and accuracy of scholarly sources provided by GenAI, specifically verify the authenticity of citations generated through use of AI tools
• Identify and critique biases, inaccurate information, and/or fabricated sources generated by GenAI tools
• Articulate your thoughts and beliefs about how authority is constructed in scholarly research settings, and how GenAI tools intersect with these ideas
• Critically evaluate GenAI's potential impact on academic integrity and your scholarly work, building skills to navigate AI tools responsibly and effectively in your research process
