A literature review is a survey of everything that has been written about a particular topic, theory, or research question. It may provide the background for larger work, or it may stand on its own.

Much more than a simple list of sources, an effective literature review analyzes and synthesizes information about key themes or issues.

Annotated Bibliography

An annotated bibliography gives an account of the research that has been done on a given topic. Like any bibliography, an annotated bibliography is an alphabetical list of research sources.

In addition to bibliographic data, an annotated bibliography provides a concise summary of each source and some assessment of its value or relevance. Depending on your assignment, an annotated bibliography may be one stage in a larger research project, or it may be an independent project standing on its own,

 

Argumentative Essay

An argumentative essay is one that makes a clear assertion or argument about some topic or issue. When you’re writing an argument essay, it’s important to remember that an academic argument is quite different from a regular, emotional argument.

Critical Review

A critical review is much more than a simple summary; it is an analysis and evaluation of a book, article, or other medium. Writing a good critical review requires that you understand the material, and that you know how to analyze and evaluate that material using appropriate criteria.
