In this workshop, you will learn the basics of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and how to use ArcGIS Online, a web-based platform that allows you to create, share, and analyze maps and data. You will use open data and geoprocessing tools to perform spatial analysis and develop workflows to address real-world problems. You will also learn how to design your analyses in a thoughtful way, by considering what data and techniques are appropriate for your problem, how to evaluate the quality and accuracy of your data and results, and how to communicate your findings effectively. By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Understand the concepts and applications of GIS
  • Navigate the ArcGIS Online interface and access its resources
  • Find, add, and visualize spatial data on a web map
  • Apply geoprocessing and analysis tools to perform spatial operations
  • Interpret and communicate the results of your analysis
  • Design your analysis with data and techniques that suit your problem
