The University of Toronto Scarborough Library was awarded funding from Council on Library & Information Resources for a major digitization project. “Unlocking Tamil Historical Archives: Digital Access and Contextualization of the S.J.V. Chelvanayakam Fonds” project received over $264,000 in funding. This two-year project aims to digitize and describe/contextualize (in both Tamil and English) the S.J.V. Chelvanayakam fonds (and related fonds) held at the University of Toronto Scarborough Library. 

On March 17, the U of T Scarborough Library is excited to celebrate Green Open Access (OA) Day – a grassroots, library-led initiative highlighting the importance of self-archiving, also known as Green OA. Self-archiving makes it possible for authors to deposit a version of their scholarly work – such as journal articles, conference papers, or book chapters – into an open repository without paying additional publisher fees to make their work freely available.

Three fascinating projects: 

Reva Jrath - Echoes Across the Sea: Mental Health, Memory, and Resilience in the Tamil Refugee Boat Journeys. This project will be focusing on two boat landings, moments in Tamil refugee history that have received less historical attention. 

Bavan Pushpalingam - Focusing on Scarborough's Tamil foodscapes as living archives of migration and belonging. 

Love Data Week is an international celebration of data, held each year around Valentine’s Day. It’s an opportunity to reflect on the role data plays in research, teaching, and everyday decision-making—and to ask a deceptively simple question. This year’s theme, Where’s the Data?, invites us to think about where data comes from, how it moves, and what happens to it over time.

The library now has a collection of six sensory kits for you to check out. Inside each kit is a variety of things/objects/tools to help you focus. 

The sensory kits can be found in the Course Reserves and can be checked out for 3 hours at a time.
